Written on October 16, 2026
Winter holiday in Hintertux? There’s plenty to discover away from the ski slopes too!
Of course, here at the Gletscher Aktiv Hotel Kössler, a lot revolves around skiing. After all, the Hintertux Glacier is only 700 meters away, and as a specialist for ski holidays in Tirol, we offer plenty of practical ski extras at our hotel, including our ski room with boot dryers, the free ski bus, our ski pass service, and our Kössler bonus card.
But of course, we also know our home away from the slopes! And since a winter holiday can always use a bit of variety, we’d like to introduce you to three of our favorite winter hikes in this blog post.
The routes lead up to the Sommerberg and back down into the valley via the Bichlalm, along the snow-covered Tuxbach, and from the Eggalm via the Lattenalm to Lanersbach. Three very different tours that all have one thing in common: beautiful winter landscapes, cozy places to stop for a bite, and plenty of fresh mountain air.
Today we’ll reveal what makes each hike so special, how long you’ll be on the trail, and the best way to get from the hotel to the starting point. Maybe you’ll even find your new favorite hike!
The most important facts at a glance:
- Winter hiking in Hintertux as a highlight away from the slopes too.
- 3 most beautiful winter hikes in Hintertux – Tux: two hikes start right at the hotel.
- A worry-free winter holiday for both skiing (right at the glacier) and winter hiking (with free rental of hiking poles & personal hiking advice from our experts).
- As a specialist for hiking holidays, our hotel offers the perfect location for hiking in winter too.
Winter Hike 1:
From the Sommerberg via the Bichlalm down into the valley (starting from Hintertux)
Who says you can only enjoy winter at the Hintertux Glacier on skis?
The winter hike from the Sommerberg via the Bichlalm to Hintertux is one of those tours where you should really take your time. Even the gondola ride up to the Sommerberg with the Gletscherbus I is an experience in itself. As the snow-covered Tux Valley passes beneath you, you can enjoy the magnificent view of the surrounding mountains.
Once you arrive at 2,035 meters, your winter hike begins. A wide, groomed winter hiking trail leads gently downhill, past snow-covered slopes and with wonderful views of the Tux mountains. After a while, you’ll reach the Bichlalm at 1,695 meters. It’s worth taking a short break here, since a cozy stop for a bite is simply part of a perfect winter day in Tirol!
And if you feel like a bit of variety after your break, you can even cover the rest of the way down into the valley by sled. You can rent sleds right at the Bichlalm.
