Tux – Hintertux Vacation Region
The municipality of Tux, where our Glacier Active Hotel Hintertux – Tux is located, consists of the villages of Tux – with the districts of Lanersbach and Vorderlanersbach – Hintertux, Madseit and Juns, as well as the hamlets of Berg, Schöneben, Außerrettenbach and Gemais.

Tux and the Tux Valley
- Tux is the main town, where the municipal office, the parish church, the tourism association, the schools, and the kindergarten are located. This is the central point. The municipality of Tux extends along the valley floor over a length of 10 km and lies at an altitude of 1260 m up to 1500 m in Hintertux. It is surrounded, indeed framed, by magnificent mountains, the highest elevation of which is the Olperer at 3476 m. The valley floor and the slopes are green to the edge of the glacier – hence the name “Tux, the green glacier valley.”
- The Tux Valley is more densely populated than the other valleys of the Zillertal, as the climatic conditions are somewhat more favorable. The Tux Valley forms the rock divide between the Tux Prealps (slate mountains) and the Tux Main Ridge (granite-like gneiss). This diverse structure of the mountain ranges on both sides of the valley gives Tux its very special scenic charm. Thus, friends of mountain hiking as well as those of high alpinism get their money’s worth. The gentler slate mountains on the sunny side of the valley offer better conditions for agriculture. This is also shown by the “Geiselhöfe” in Tux, which are located at 1630 m above sea level and are the highest year-round inhabited mountain farms in the Zillertal.
- From our Glacier Active Hotel Kössler in Hintertux – Tux you have a great view of the surrounding mountains of the Tuxertal.
Tradition & Customs
Alpine Cattle Drive & Oktoberfest every September
Celebrate with us an ancient tradition – the homecoming of the cows after a summer on the Alm. The cows are decorated with flowers and bells and then brought back from the Bichlalm to their stables. But first, a stop is made in front of the large tent of the Hintertux Oktoberfest, so that the beautiful floral decorations can be admired. Regional specialties are available at the Tux Farmers Market. This old tradition is framed with a great music program, dance and entertainment and makes this day a memorable experience!
